Dragon Ball Kai (ドラゴンボール改　「カイ」) is an upcoming anime series that is set to be an HD Remaster and Recut of Dragon Ball Z done for the 20th Anniversary of Dragon Ball Z that will premiere on Fuji TV on April 5th at 9:30am just before One Piece. Little is known about the series, however two Issues of Shounen JUMP have included some primary information about it.

Known Information

The Series is being Extensively "Refreshed" for Japanese TV.
It's being done in Celebration of Dragon Ball Z's 20th Anniversary.
It will be based on the original animation, but updated with new technology.
Part of this will be reformatting and extending the picture to 16:9 Widescreen

Note: The Jump image says it will not be a cropping of the series, at least not completely.

A complete Re-recording of the Dialog by the original Japanese cast.

Note: Except for the few Voice actors who have passed away.

Completely new sound design with updated sound effects.
The Opening and Ending themes are being "Renewed", however the specifics of this are unknown.
Reports have stated that the series will be cut down from 291 episodes to approximately 100, but these rumors are unsubstantiated.

The original main cast, centered around Masako Nozawa as Son Goku, will reunite, yo. They'll breathe life into the characters again, to support their appeal!!

Toei Animation Confirmed DBKai's story will be edited to fit closer to the Manga.

New Title

A Jump issue has revealed that the new series will be called Dragon Ball Kai, "Kai" meaning "Renewed" or "Redone". Interestingly, despite the series being only a directors cut of Dragon Ball Z, the Z has been completely removed from the title.
